Grants
The Pell Grant Program is a federal aid program administered by the U.S. Office of Education. Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Office of Education independently of the University. The grant does not have to be repaid. To qualify, students must show financial need. Recipients must also meet these criteria: (1) must be working toward the first undergraduate degree; (2) must be a U.S. citizen or in the United States for other than a temporary purpose and intend to become a citizen; (3) must be enrolled in an institution approved to participate in the Pell Program; and (4) must be making satisfactory progress as defined by federal regulations.
Satisfactory Progress Policy:
1. Students must be enrolled and seeking a degree to receive financial aid.Students who owe a repayment or are in default on any of the Title IV programs will not be eligible for financial aid.
2. Undergraduate students must complete their degree within six years. Any semester of enrollment of less than full time will be considered proportionately.Studentspursuing a second baccalaureate degree or teacher licensure will have a new maximum time frame established for that particular pursuit. There will be a two year maximum for full-time enrollment at the graduate level.
3. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average consistent with the institutions graduation standards, as listed in the college catalog, to receive student financial aid.Students who are suspended because of failure to maintain the minimum GPA are not making satisfactory academic progress and will not be eligible for financial aid until the minimum cumulative GPA has been earned. (0-29 hrs. - 1.5, 30-59 hrs. - 1.75, 60 hrs. - above - 2.0)
NOTE: REINSTATEMENT TO CLASS BY THE ADMISSION & ADJUSTMENTS COMMITTEE DOES NOT REINSTATE A STUDENT TO THE FINANCIAL AID PROGRAMS.
4. Studentsawarded aid on a full-time basis must enroll in 12 or more hours per semester and complete a minimum of 20 hours per year (or 10 hours per semester).Students willbeawardedaidas three-quartertime ifenrolledin9to 11 hours per semester andmustcompleteaminimum of 15 hours per year. Students will be awarded aidonahalf-timebasisif enrolled in six to eight hourspersemester and must complete a minimum of 10 hours per year.A student's official enrollment status will be determined on the 11th day of classes and aid will be awarded accordingly.Students awarded on a less-than-half-time basis must complete all the hours in which they enroll.(Summer school hours may be used to fulfill the yearly minimum hour requirement). An incomplete grade (I) will be treated as "F" until work is completed and the grade is recorded.
5. A student who withdraws from the University on or before the 11th day of classes and received no financial aid will be considered as not having enrolled for the semester. A student who withdraws after the 11th day of classes will be held responsible for the minimum required hours for his/her enrollment status. In order to receive aid, a student must be making satisfactory progress, regardless of whether he or she has previously received Title IV aid. Students who have not met the requirements for satisfactory progress can have financial aid funds reinstated the semester following the completion of the required number of hours and the attainment of the required cumulative GPA.
An initial disbursement of Title IV aid will be made to transfer students just as for any other student who is enrolling for the first time at Henderson. However, the maximum time frame of six (6) years will be applied to the student and the required cumulative grade point average will include any grades accepted by the Office of the Registrar from another institution.
Students with extenuating circumstances (such as an illness of the student or the death of a relative of the student) may submit an appeal in writing to the Director of Financial Aid within 30 days of the time that the student is notified of his/her non-compliance.Appeals will be reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee and a recommendation will be made to the president of the University.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are awarded to students with unusually high financial need. The amount will vary and is dependent on the student's need level and availability of funds. Students must be eligible to receive a Pell Grant in order to receive SEOG funds.
Note: All grant funds will be credited to student's account in the Henderson Business Office. If a refund is due, a check will be issued after all student enrollments have been verified.
